Mumbai, Aug. 31 -- Samajwadi Party MLA from Bhiwandi East Rais Shaikh today accused the ruling BJP of attempting to influence elections through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Maharashtra, alleging that names of minority, Dalit and migrant voters were being deleted.

He claimed Bhiwandi was among the constituencies most affected by the exercise, alleging that voters from minority communities, Dalits and migrant workers had been removed from electoral rolls on grounds such as being shifted or duplicate entries.

"This is not an administrative lapse but a well-planned conspiracy," Shaikh alleged, accusing the BJP of seeking to secure electoral advantage by altering voter rolls.
