Nashik, July 30 -- Athlete from the district, Dilip Gavit, won the gold medal for India in the 100 metres para-athletics event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the first runner to win gold in this category.
He mentioned that although he was initially trailing, he recalled his coach's advice, surged ahead in the final 30 seconds, and secured the victory.
His parents learned of this achievement when a teacher from Dilip's school informed them via phone; they expressed their happiness and said he had brought glory to the nation.
