Sangli, Aug. 10 -- :An all-party protest rally was held in Jat town of the district today opposing the proposal to rename the town as 'Devbhoomi Jat'.
The proposal to change the historic name of Jat to 'Devbhoomi Jat' has reportedly been initiated by BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar.
Leaders from various political parties in Jat have opposed the move, arguing that the town's historic identity should be preserved.
The protest rally was jointly led by former MLA Vilasrao Jagtap and former MLA Vikram Sawant. Hundreds of local residents participated in the march, wearing black ribbons as a mark of protest against the proposed renaming.
