Chennai, July 18 -- The Madras High Court has dismissed a PIL seeking a CBI probe into the case relating to the alleged attempt to induce a ruling Uthangarai TVK MLA Dr N.Elayaraja with a Rs 35 crore bribery offer on the grounds that newspaper reports and social media posts could form the basis for transferring a statutory criminal investigation.

Dismissing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Tirupur-based advocate J Balasubramani,seeking transfer of the probe from the Triplicane Police to the CBI, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice SA Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan observed that the petitioner had relied heavily on newspaper reports, press releases, and social media audio and video clips to contend that "horse-tr...
