Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- - A 36-year-old man was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked with kirpans near a liquor shop on the Siaar-Mangat road in Ludhiana late Wednesday night, with police investigating a suspected dispute over money.

Veer Davinder Singh, a resident of Mangat village, was allegedly left by the roadside after the assault. His family said he remained there through the night before passers-by spotted him and alerted his relatives.

By the time he reached Ludhiana Civil Hospital, his condition was serious. Doctors later referred him to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for further treatment.
