Lucknow, March 26 -- The MP/MLA court in Lucknow on Wednesday acquitted senior Congress leader and former MP Raj Babbar in a decades-old case related to the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, providing him major relief.
The case dates back to the 1996 general elections, when former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was contesting from the Lucknow constituency as a BJP candidate, and Raj Babbar was fielded by the Samajwadi Party against him.
On the day of polling, a dispute reportedly broke out between Babbar and an election officer at a polling booth over allegations of bogus voting.
