Glasgow, July 31 -- Just one kilogram denied India's Lovepreet Singh a Commonwealth Games gold medal as the heavyweight lifter settled for silver in the men's 110kg weightlifting competition after New Zealand's David Liti produced a Games record lift with his final attempt on Thursday.

Lovepreet appeared on course for the title after an outstanding display in the snatch, where he cleared 168kg and 173kg before smashing the Games record with a flawless 176kg lift to finish at the top of the standings.

The Indian maintained his advantage in the clean and jerk, successfully opening at 205kg before improving to 212kg in his second attempt, taking his overall total to 388kg and putting himself in pole position for the gold medal.
