Varanasi, June 26 -- Keeping alive the Sanatan Dharma, religious and cultural traditions, the divine Mahasnan (great bath) and Jalabhishek (blessing of the Lord) of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra will be performed at the Jagannath Temple on Assi Marg here on the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, on June 29.
According to belief, after the Jalabhishek, Lord Jagannath goes into hiding for 14 days after falling ill. During this period, the Lord is offered medicinal decoctions and distributed among devotees. On July 14, after recovering, Lord Jagannath will again appear before devotees. The darshan on this day is considered extremely rare and auspicious.
