Chamarajanagar, July 14 -- Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka on Tuesday accused the Congress government of attempting to interfere with the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that it was seeking to influence the exercise for political gains while pursuing "minority appeasement" by trying to legitimise illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Addressing reporters here, Ashoka said the Special Intensive Revision, undertaken once every two decades, should be conducted in a transparent and impartial manner. He alleged that the state government was trying to "hijack" the process and warned that any interference would undermine the credibility of the electoral rolls.
