Pune, March 10 -- The Maharashtra government has granted ownership rights to residents affected by the Panshet floods in Kothrud, official sources said here on Monday.

Mangesh Kharate, President of the Panshet Flood Victims Committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Higher Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil for this decision.

On July 12, 1961, due to the breach of the Panshet Dam in Pune, a devastating flood occurred in which more than 1,000 people lost their lives and over 65,000 people were displaced. After this tragedy, the flood victims were rehabilitated in different parts of the city.
