New Delhi, July 31 -- The Lok Sabha on Friday approved a motion extending the tenure of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) examining three key Bills that seek to introduce automatic disqualification of the Prime Minister, union Ministers, Chief Ministers and other ministers if they remain in judicial custody for 30 consecutive days in connection with serious criminal offences.

The motion, moved by Bharatiya Janata Party MP and Chairperson of the 31-member Joint Parliamentary Committee Aparajita Sarangi, along with BJP MP Vishnu Dayal Ram, sought additional time for the panel to complete its scrutiny of the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and th...
