Cutral Co (Argentina), June 25 -- Argentine football icon Lionel Messi has been honoured with a towering 85-foot statue in Patagonia, marking one of the most extravagant tributes to the World Cup-winning captain as he continues to dominate headlines during the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The massive 26-metre steel structure, weighing nearly 70 tonnes, was unveiled in the remote oil town of Cutral Co and depicts Messi in a celebratory pose inspired by Argentina's 2022 World Cup triumph in Qatar. The statue, created over 18 months by local sculptor Aldo Beroisa, has quickly turned the quiet Patagonian town into a tourist attraction.
