Srinagar, July 20 -- In a major push to improve connectivity in Ladakh's remote Nubra Valley, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Monday laid the foundation stones for the Burma-Sumoor and Tongsted motorable bridges over the Siachen River.
The projects are expected to significantly enhance all-weather access to several villages, with the Burma-Sumoor Bridge set to cut the distance between Sumoor and four neighbouring villages from nearly 70 km to about 500 metres, improving access to essential services and the district headquarters.
Officials said the two projects, being executed under the Special Development Package (SDP) of the UT Administration, will significantly transform connectivity in the border region.
