New Delhi, Nov. 3 -- President Droupadi Murmu today described legislative assemblies as a ''key pillar'' of India's Parliamentary system and said legislators are the most important link between the public and the government.

Addressing the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in Dehradun on the Silver Jubilee of the formation of Uttarakhand state, the President said constant accountability to the public is both a strength and challenge of the Parliamentary system.

The President said the framers of the Constitution had placed greater importance on continuous accountability by adopting the Parliamentary system.
