Beirut/Jerusalem, April 14 -- Lebanon's leadership cautiously expressed hope that its direct talks with Israel in Washington could help end the suffering going on in the country, as the IDF's fighting against Hezbollah continues, risking further escalation.

"I hope that the meeting in Washington. will mark the beginning of the end of the suffering of the Lebanese people in general, and those in the south in particular," President Joseph Aoun said, pointing to the toll the renewed war has taken on civilians.
