Beirut, July 22 -- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam visited the battered southern village of Zawtar al-Gharbiya on Wednesday and declared his arrival the start of a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon after Lebanese forces began deploying to the area under the US-brokered security agreement.
Salam planted a Lebanese flag in the village, which Israeli troops had vacated, and pledged that the government would restore state authority and begin rebuilding homes and infrastructure damaged during the conflict.
The visit came a day after Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met US President Donald Trump at the White House, where Trump reaffirmed Washington's support for Beirut's efforts to extend government control across the country.
