Nagpur, Nov. 6 -- Advocate Sandeep Badana, a lawyer based in Nagpur, has requested Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai to consider his October 25 submission as a public interest litigation (PIL), advocating for the creation of a permanent Supreme Court bench in Nagpur.

Adv. Badana highlighted that litigants from southern, eastern and western India are forced to travel long distances to New Delhi to access the Supreme Court, incurring substantial expenses, loss of time and psychological stress.

He also noted that the lack of decentralisation has contributed to the mounting number of pending cases in the apex court, which currently exceeds 85,000, thereby increasing the workload pressure on the judges.
