Puri, July 17 -- Lakhs of devotees on Friday successfully pulled the three majestic chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra to the Gundicha Temple, bringing the second day of the world-famous Rath Yatra to a peaceful conclusion after Thursday's procession was marred by delays, administrative lapses and tragic incidents.

The chariot procession resumed at around 9.30 a.m. after it was suspended on Thursday evening when none of the three chariots could reach the Gundicha Temple due to an inordinate delay in the Pahandi ritual. The opening day of the festival was also overshadowed by the deaths of devotees and controversy over the absence of Lord Jagannath's ceremonial tiara during the Pahandi procession.
