Srinagar, Sept. 3 -- Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena on Thursday approved the notification for creation of Autonomous Hill Development Councils (LAHDCs) in all seven districts of the union Territory, following the Centre's decision to establish the new councils, paving the way for elected local self-governance in five newly created districts.

The Centre, on July 13, had announced the creation of new LAHDCs in the UT of Ladakh.

Officials said with the approval, LAHDCs will now be extended to all seven districts of Ladakh - Leh, Kargil, Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass.
