Lukung (Changthang, Aug. 7 -- The District Administration Changthang, in collaboration with the Department of Handlooms and Handicrafts, Leh, on Friday celebrated National Handloom Day at Lukung village on the banks of the iconic Pangong Lake at an altitude of over 14,000 feet above sea level.
National Handloom Day is observed annually on August 7 to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement of 1905, which encouraged the use of indigenous products and marked an important milestone in India's freedom struggle. The occasion also seeks to highlight the handloom sector as a symbol of the country's rich cultural heritage, self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
