Bengaluru, Aug. 18 -- JD(S) leader and union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday mounted a blistering attack on Chief Minister DK Shivakumar over the Bidadi Township project, accusing the Congress government of ignoring farmers' interests and challenging the Chief Minister to face him in an open debate before affected farmers.

Kumaraswamy said Shivakumar should come to Bidadi and discuss the township proposal directly with farmers instead of making statements through the media.

The JD(S) leader alleged that farmers displaced by land acquisition for infrastructure projects had been waiting for compensation for years and questioned why successive governments had failed to settle their claims.
