Bengaluru, Aug. 12 -- Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, accusing it of being preoccupied with "political survival" and ministerial portfolios while Karnataka grapples with the Cauvery water crisis.

Taking a swipe at the prolonged exercise over allocation of portfolios, Kumaraswamy questioned whether protecting political positions had become more important for the government than addressing the concerns of the people.

He said the repeated uncertainty over who would get which department reflected the government's priorities, alleging that the exercise had been driven by political compulsions rather than administrative considerations.
