Kolkata, June 24 -- Kolkata residents will be able to enjoy a fresh view of the Hooghly riverfront at Kumartuli ghat this Durga Puja, with the authorities of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port planning a complete revamp of the iconic ghat before the festive season begins.
The redevelopment of the ghat was started last year following an MoU between the city port and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ). The agreement was signed on 11 July 2025 to carry out the restoration works under a CSR initiative.
According to port sources, repairing and retrofitting of the heritage structures at the ghat including temples, and shrines have been completed. For this, traditional techniques to preserve the precinct's sacred ambience have been used....
