Kolkata, June 8 -- In a significant move, the West Bengal government on Monday dissolved the board of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and appointed the civic body's Municipal Commissioner as its administrator.

An order issued by the Municipal Affairs Department saidthe dissolution was carried out under the provisions of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980. As a result, all elected members of the Corporation, the Mayor-in-Council, the Mayor, the Chairman and all committees constituted under the Act have been asked to vacate their offices.
