Kolkata, June 5 -- In a major blow to the Trinamool Congress-dominated Kolkata Municipal Corporation, city Mayor Firhad Hakim on Friday tendered his resignation, claiming his inability to work in the "changed political scenario.""In accordance with the provisions of the KMC Act, 1980, I hereby tender my resignation from the office of Mayor of Kolkata, with immediate effect," Hakim, also a prominent TMC leader, said in a letter addressed to the civic body's chairperson Mala Roy, ending his innings as the first citizen of the city.
The Mayor's resignation came around a month after the West Bengal Assembly election results, which saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) oust the Trinamool Congress (TMC) from power in the state.
