Kolkata, Sept. 4 -- The West Bengal government on Friday performed the bhumi pujan and laid the foundation stone for a proposed Rs 25-crore Uttam Kumar Film Centre in New Town, which will include cinema halls, a 1,000-seat auditorium, an open-air theatre and facilities for animation, visual effects and film post-production.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who attended the ceremony with actors Mithun Chakraborty, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Ranjit Mallick, also announced that Chakraborty would shortly be formally appointed Cultural Adviser to the West Bengal government.
The proposed centre, being developed to mark the birth centenary of Bengali cinema legend Uttam Kumar, will have three sections, Adhikari said.
