Kolkata, June 9 -- Daily commuters relying on private and mini buses across Kolkata and its adjoining areas may soon face reduced services as operators struggle to cope with rising fuel prices and mounting operational costs.

While operating costs have risen steadily, official bus fares have remained unchanged since 2018, leaving private transport owners wrestling to keep their vehicles on the road.

In and after the post covid period, there was a lot of noise over fare hike for private and minibuses. However, with the previous regime not allowing a hike, private bus operators in the city and the suburbs, who have long been demanding fare revision, began charging increased fares.
