Kolhapur, April 23 -- A black leopard (melanistic leopard) has been recorded for the first time in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. The rare animal was photographed in a camera trap in Chandoli National Park on April 20.

The presence of a black leopard in this area has been confirmed after three separate photographs were taken in different beats on April 20 and 21. Such a record has never been made in the project before.

On Wednesday, April 22, forest officials who went to check the camera trap in Chandoli National Park found a black leopard captured in the camera trap. Three different photos were captured in different beats on April 20 and 21. Thus, a black leopard was recorded in the reserve for the first time.
