Kolhapur, Sept. 15 -- Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) national president and former MP Raju Shetty today announced that the historic 25th sugarcane convention (Uas Parishad) will be held on Octobar 10 to fix the Fair and Remunerative Price of sugarcane for the crushing season. He also announced that a dharna will he held in front of union Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Pralhad Joshi's residence in Hubli on Sep 29.
On the directives of the Central Government, the State Government has decided to start the sugarcane crushing season from October 15 this year. However, this decision of the Government is unilateral and will cause huge losses to the sugar industry, manufacturers and mainly sugarcane farmers, Shetty said.
