Kolhapur, June 18 -- More than 1 lakh hatchlings were released into the sea at 56 beaches in the state under the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle Conservation Program, implemented in collaboration with the Kandalvan Cell, Kandalvan Pratishthan and local turtle friends under the government's forest department.

In a press release, a total of 1,724 turtle nests were recorded on 56 beaches in the state during the 2025-26 season.

As many as 1,8,596 turtle hatchlings from these nests have been successfully released into the sea, with an overall hatching success rate of 61.20 percent.

Ratnagiri district recorded the highest number of nests, 964, out of which 54,227 chicks were released, while Sindhudurg district recorded 53,325 chicks from 738 nests. Th...
