Kolkata, July 16 -- Ending days of speculation, Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick resigned from the Upper House on Thursday, triggering fresh political buzz over her possible move to the BJP.

Mallick submitted her resignation in person to Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan in New Delhi.

Soon after, she met union minister Bhupender Yadav, a development that intensified speculation about her political future.

According to sources, Mallick had earlier emailed her resignation to the Rajya Sabha Chairman but according to parliamentary rules, a member must appear in person to formally submit the resignation.

She, therefore, handed over the resignation letter personally on Thursday morning before meeting Yadav.
