Kolkata, June 2 -- A councillor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) was arrested on alleged extortion charges on Tuesday, police said.

Sachin Singh, the councillor of Ward Number 36, was nabbed by a team from the Narkeldanga Police Station.

An officer familiar with the case said Singh was arrested after a complaint was filed by some persons.

Singh had earlier led protests outside the office of the Election Commission of India here in the run up to the West Bengal Assembly elections.
