Dharwad, Aug. 10 -- The historical record of Kittur Rani Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna and other iconic figures of Karnataka's freedom struggle remains partly locked away in Maharashtra, with more than two lakh documents relating to the State's political, social and cultural history lying in archives and research institutions there.
Historians and researchers have now urged the Karnataka government to urgently retrieve, preserve, digitise and translate the documents, warning that continued neglect could result in the permanent loss of valuable historical evidence.
The records, housed in the Maharashtra State Archives and research libraries in Pune, Kolhapur and Mumbai, are largely written in the centuries-old Modi script. Researchers say th...
