Nagpur, Jan. 22 -- A youth arrested for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl was found dead while in police custody in Nagpur, officials said on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Manojkumar Ramji Bhatia (19), was arrested in Uttar Pradesh in connection with a kidnapping case registered at Jaripatka police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
He was brought to Nagpur and produced before a local court on Wednesday, which remanded him to police custody for two days.
According to police, Bhatia was lodged in the lock-up following the court's remand. During a routine check on Thursday morning, he was found hanging inside the lock-up.
Officials believe the incident occurred late Wednesday night.
