Bengaluru, April 13 -- Escalating the political battle over the implementation of women's reservation, AICC Chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday accused the Centre of attempting to "politicise" a unanimously passed legislation and sidestep wider consultations with Opposition parties.

Positioning the Congress as an early champion of women's quota, Kharge said the party had not only supported the Bill in Parliament but had a long record of implementing one-third reservation in local bodies. He credited senior leader Sonia Gandhi for pushing the issue well before it became a national legislative priority.
