Akola, April 19 -- Anti-superstition activist Shyam Manav today made serious allegations in connection with the self-proclaimed godman 'Captain' Ashok Kharat case, claiming that the matter came to light due to alleged involvement of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Kharat, a self-styled godman from Nashik, has been arrested on charges of sexually exploiting women.
The case also led to the resignation of Rupali Chakankar as chairperson of the State Women's Commission.
Activist Anjali Damania had earlier alleged that Eknath Shinde had made 17 calls to Ashok Kharat, while Rupali Chakankar had made 177 calls.
Ms Damania had made claims regarding alleged telephonic contacts between Kharat and political figures.
