Chandigarh, Jan. 25 -- A Khalistani extremist organisation has claimed responsibility for the blast that damaged a freight train engine near Sirhind in Punjab's Fatehgarh Sahib district, days ahead of Republic Day. The explosion occurred on a railway line late Friday evening, leaving the locomotive pilot injured and causing temporary disruption to rail traffic.

According to preliminary details, the incident took place around 9:50 pm when a goods train was moving towards Ludhiana on a newly constructed rail track near the Khanpur railway crossing.
