Thiruvananthapuram, July 21 -- The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) uncovered "widespread and entrenched corruption" in the Kerala State Motor Vehicles Department (MVD).
Acting on intelligence covertly gathered over several weeks, the Vigilance swooped down on 81 MVD offices across the State in a centrally coordinated, simultaneous operation code-named "Clean Wheels," DGP Manoj Abraham said.
The surprise raids revealed that officials were working in collusion with agents who collected bribe money from service seekers. This money was then clandestinely passed on to vehicle inspectors on weekends, after the agents took a substantial cut.
