Kochi, March 7 -- In a move aimed at simplifying the voting process, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced today that voters in Kerala will now see colour photographs of candidates on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the first time.

Additionally, electorates will be permitted to carry mobile phones up to the entrance of polling stations during the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing the media after two days of rigorous election preparedness assessments, CEC Kumar revealed that postal ballots will be counted in two rounds before EVMs are tallied.

He also confirmed that any discrepancy between Form 17C and EVM data will trigger mandatory counting of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips to ensure accuracy....
