Thiruvananthapuram, May 30 -- The Kerala government has announced a 52-day trawling ban in the state's coastal waters from midnight on June 9 to midnight on July 31 as part of efforts to protect marine resources and promote sustainable fishing practices.
According to the Fisheries Department, the annual monsoon trawling ban is aimed at conserving fish stocks during their peak breeding season and ensuring the long-term sustainability of marine fisheries.
Authorities noted that the southwest monsoon provides ideal conditions for fish reproduction, making it crucial to prevent the destruction of fish eggs, juvenile fish, and breeding stock caused by trawling operations.
