Kozhikode, Jan. 26 -- Kerala shone brightly in the glitter of the Padma Awards announced on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, with several prominent personalities from the state receiving the prestigious honours, in recognition of their contributions in various fields.
Kerala has got eight Padma awards, more than the five it got last year.
Three out of the five Padma Vibhushan awards - the country's second highest civilian honour -- have gone to people from the state.
The late former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, former Supreme Court Justice KT Thomas and founding editor of Janmabhoomi newspaper P. Narayanan have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
VS Achuthanandan is awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously.
