Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 2 -- The Kerala government's claim of having eradicated extreme poverty in the state is nothing more than a high-voltage PR campaign aimed at misleading people ahead of the elections, alleged Congress Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala.
The senior Congress leader and former Opposition Leader also said that no recognised national or international agency has certified the government's declaration. Chennithala pointed out that "poverty/extreme poverty eradication" is only one among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, for which nearly 38 UN bodies work globally. "Not one of these agencies has endorsed Kerala's claim of becoming an extreme-poverty-free state," he said.
