Kochi, June 24 -- The Kerala High Court on Wednesday declared invalid the oaths taken by 20 BJP councillors of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, ruling that they had failed to adhere to the oath prescribed under the Kerala Municipality Act.
The court directed all 20 councillors to retake the oath in the prescribed manner within four weeks.
The verdict came on a petition filed by opposition councillor S.P. Deepak, who challenged the validity of the swearing-in ceremony held after the 2025 local body elections. The petitioner contended that the councillors had not taken the oath in accordance with the statutory format and therefore could not legally continue as elected members.
