Thiruvananthapuram, March 1 -- The 24-hour special helpdesk activated by NORKA Roots has received 541 distress calls as of 6 pm today evening, reflecting growing anxiety among Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

Of these, 188 calls were from abroad and 353 from within India. The overseas calls were primarily from the UAE (78), Qatar (49), Bahrain (39), Kuwait (12), Oman (5), Saudi Arabia (3) and the UK (2).

The helpdesk was set up on the directions of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in view of the conflict situation triggered by hostilities involving Israel and Iran.
