Bhubaneswar, Aug. 4 -- More than Rs 31 crore has been invested under Central and State schemes to strengthen the tasar silk value chain in Keonjhar, Odisha's second-largest raw silk-producing district, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Replying to a question by Keonjhar MP Ananta Nayak, union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh said the district produced 24 metric tonnes (MT) of raw silk during 2025-26, accounting for nearly 18 per cent of Odisha's total raw silk output of 134 MT, including 132 MT of tasar silk.

The Minister said tasar sericulture supports the livelihood of around 4,000 families across 325 villages in eight blocks of the district. The growers have been organised into 13 Primary Tasar Cooperative Societies.
