New Delhi, July 28 -- Sixteen years after his father won a Commonwealth Games medal for India, Valluri Ajay Babu carried forward the family legacy in style, clinching a silver medal in the men's 79kg weightlifting event after a gripping battle for gold at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow on Monday.
The 21-year-old from Andhra Pradesh finished with a total lift of 330kg (149kg snatch and 181kg clean and jerk), falling just one kilogram short of Malaysia's Erry Hidayat Muhammad, who claimed gold with 331kg. England's Chris Murray settled for bronze with 325kg.
The thrilling contest saw the Commonwealth Games record rewritten multiple times as the two lifters traded the lead in a dramatic finale.
