Mysuru, May 14 -- Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday clarified that saffron shawls will not be permitted in educational institutions under the state government's revised order on religious symbols, while existing religious practices such as hijab, turbans, rudraksha beads, sacred threads (Janeu) and Shivadhara will continue to be allowed.

Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, the Chief Minister said only those religious symbols and practices that are already in use will be permitted and no new practices can be introduced in schools and colleges up to Class 12.
