Bengaluru, July 19 -- Karnataka is considering banning the sale of junk food in canteens of government hospitals and schools, besides prohibiting its sale around schools up to the SSLC level, as part of a wider initiative to tackle rising lifestyle diseases among children and young people, Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader said on Sunday.
Announcing the proposal at a meeting of the Grievance and Development Committee at Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru, Khader said increasing consumption of junk food was contributing to the growing incidence of non-communicable diseases, including kidney ailments and cancer.
