Bengaluru, Aug. 30 -- The Karnataka High Court today asked the union government to respond to a petition challenging the new Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which bans online money games like rummy and poker across India.

The petition was filed by Head Digital Works Private Limited, which runs the A23 online gaming platform. The company argued that the new law, despite its title suggesting "promotion" of online gaming, actually shuts down the industry and threatens lakhs of jobs.

Justice BM Shyam Prasad issued a notice to the Centre and fixed September 8 at 2.30 PM to hear the request for interim relief.
