Tumakuru (Karnataka), Aug. 4 -- Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Tuesday said state governments should not wait for Central assistance to respond to drought situations, urging the Congress government in Karnataka to immediately announce a Rs 10,000 crore special relief package for farmers affected by deficient rainfall.

After inspecting drought-hit villages in Tumakuru district, Vijayendra said more than 28 districts in Karnataka were facing severe rainfall deficit, leaving farmers in distress due to crop losses, delayed sowing and worsening drinking water shortages.
